One Community to Host Live Virtual Event Featuring Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell

EAST LANSING, Mich. — While an in-person One Book, One Community (OBOC) event will not be hosted this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the OBOC Committee has re-imagined the program as “One Community” and will be hosting a live virtual event on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

The live virtual event, entitled “MARCH” Forward, will feature a Comic Art Collection Exhibition by MSU Libraries and a question and answer session with special guests Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell. Aydin and Powell worked closely with Civil Rights leader and U.S. Congressman John Lewis to create the “MARCH” trilogy – an autobiographical collection of graphic novels about the Civil Rights Movement, told through the perspective of Congressman Lewis. Aydin is the co-author of the trilogy and Powell is the illustrator of the trilogy.

“Community members won’t want to miss this special virtual event, which will serve to inspire conversations around engagement in democracy and hope in these challenging times,” said ELPL Director Kristin Shelley.

Participants can submit questions during the event or ahead of time by sending an email to onebookmsu@gmail.com. Community members can join the live event via Zoom (please pre-register) or Facebook Live.
